About Jeffrey Adam

At just 22, Jeffrey Adam was lost to us as a result of a rare but virulent strain of bacterial meningitis. He was known as an intelligent, fun-loving, and loyal friend, an impressive high-jumper in high school and college, and a great junior sailor. Jeff was particularly interested in sharing his passions with younger friends, and many followed in his path because of his generous spirit.

The Jeffrey Adam Memorial Regatta

Liz Fletcher, a Sea Scout and avid sailor who learned from Jeff, wanted to hold a sailing event to honor her friend’s memory. Dana Point Yacht Club had traditionally held a junior regatta during the harbor’s Festival of Whales with the winner’s name added to a very beautiful perpetual trophy displayed in the yacht club’s lobby. Jeffrey Adam had won that trophy so many times that it was fitting to rename the trophy and regatta, The Jeffrey Adam Memorial Regatta.

In partnership with Jeff’s family, the Dana Point Harbor Youth Foundation established the regatta as an annual event that is the result of the cooperation of the yacht clubs, Sea Scouts, and the sailing school that have their homes in Dana Point Harbor. Jeff was unique in that he participated in all of them at one time or another. Dana Point Yacht Club has been the host of this regatta since its inception. 2024 is the 12th anniversary of JAMR.

Sailing helps young people learn the lessons of responsibility, cooperation, hard work, and giving back. It worked that way for Jeffrey, and it is this legacy that the Jeffrey Adam Memorial Regatta hopes to help carry forward.

Working together, the Dana Point Harbor Youth Foundation and Dana Point Yacht Club hope you will help us continue Jeff Adam’s legacy. Your donations allow DPHYF to provide scholarships to deserving youth, grants to youth sailing organizations, as well as, boats and equipment to support those youth sailing programs.
